EFT FAQs
Q: Is there any science behind this whole tapping thing?
A: Yes! Brain research is an exploding field and EFT Tapping is being studied at Universities around the world.
"EFT has been researched in more than 10 countries, by more than 60 investigators, whose results have been published in more than 20 different peer-reviewed journals. These include distinguished top-tier journals such as Journal of Clinical Psychology, the APA journals Psychotherapy: Theory, Research, Practice, Training and Review of General Psychology, and the oldest psychiatric journal in North America, the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease. EFT research includes investigators affiliated with many different institutions. In the US, these range from Harvard Medical School, to the University of California at Berkeley, to City University of New York, to Walter Reed Military Medical Center, to Texas A&M University, to JFK University. Institutions in other countries whose faculty have contributed to EFT research include Lund University (Sweden), Ankara University (Turkey), Santo Tomas University (Philippines), Lister Hospital (England), Cesar Vallejo University (Peru), and Griffith University (Australia). The wide variety of institutions, peer-reviewed journals, investigators, and settings that have, in independent research, found EFT to be efficacious, are one indication of the breadth of existing research results." - Excerpted from EFT Universe.com. Q: I'm not into all this 'new age' stuff? Will EFT work on me even though I don't believe in it?
A: You don't have to believe in it at all for it to work. And far from being 'New Age', it's based on the same 3000 year-old principles of Chinese medicine as acupuncture - a practice increasingly covered by medical insurance plans.
Q: Oh, good! Does that mean EFT is covered by my medical insurance?
A: Unfortunately, not yet. But the people on the frontline of EFT research and promotion are optimistic that it will be in the not-too-distant future - just like NLP is now covered by many plans.
Q: Can EFT be harmful?
A: If you are in any way worried about the effects of tapping lightly on your meridian points with your fingers, please ask your doctor. Likewise, if you have been diagnosed with schizophrenia or another serious mental illness, it's important to tell us so we can decide how best to work with you and whether we need to consult with your doctor before we begin.
Q: Why do I need to work with a practitioner when it looks so easy?
A: You don't have to work with a practitioner to get results and in fact we usually give our clients "tapping homework" to do between sessions. Some people find just a few sessions with a practitioner are enough to set them on a life-changing path to self-help while others find that the experience and training of a practitioner can dramatically speed up the process. If you want to learn the basics of EFT, there are numerous web sites and video tutorials you can access.
Q: I've been hearing a lot about EFT working on PTSD. Where can I find out more?
A: EFT has been showing very promising results helping war veterans and other sufferers of PTSD. Check out a US initiative to bring free EFT to war vets, called The Veterans Stress Project. Also, click on the link to watch this interesting evening news piece on how EFT helped a vet when nothing else worked.
